Asia Institute of Urban Environment “Best Paper Award”
1. Background and Purpose
Asia Institute of Urban Environment (AIUE) has established the “Best Paper Award” to encourage and recognize research achievements of high academic value and innovative contributions in the field of urban environment, and to enhance the overall standard of urban environmental research across Asia. This award is intended to honor outstanding papers published through AIUE-sponsored conferences, journals, or within its recommended scope, and to promote academic exchange and the improvement of research quality.
2. Objectives of the “Best Paper Award”
To recognize papers that demonstrate originality, scientific merit, and significant impact in the field of urban environment;
To encourage young researchers and interdisciplinary research initiatives;
To facilitate the dissemination and practical application of research outcomes;
To promote academic collaboration and knowledge sharing across regions.
3. Recommendation and Review Process
Recommendation Source: In principle, nominations must be submitted by AIUE members or by the authors themselves.
Submission Materials: Abstract, full paper, author information, and reason for recommendation within 400 characters must be submitted.
Preliminary Review: The AIUE Secretariat will conduct a formal review for format and eligibility.
Expert Review: The Review Committee will score and evaluate the paper based on the established criteria.
Final Approval: The final award decision will be approved by the AIUE Review Committee.
Award Ceremony: Recipients will be recognized and invited to present at the annual meeting or an international conference hosted by AIUE.
4. Evaluation Criteria
Originality: Does the paper propose new theories, methods, or perspectives?
Academic Contribution: Does it contribute to the advancement of the field or interdisciplinary integration?
Applicability: Is the research likely to be applied in practice or inform policy?
Writing and Presentation Quality: Is the structure logical and the language clear?
Social Impact: Does the research have a wide academic or societal influence?
5. Award Details
A certificate of commendation will be issued;
Featured introduction on the official AIUE website and journal;
Presentation opportunities at the annual meeting or related conferences;
A monetary prize or research grant may be awarded, depending on the available budget.
6. Selection Criteria for Review Committee Members
To ensure the professionalism, fairness, and representativeness of the Best PaperAward evaluation process, the following selection criteria will apply to review committee members:
Expertise: Members must possess a strong academic background in fields related to urban environment, architecture, sustainability, or environmental policy, and demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate papers in relevant subject areas.
Neutrality: Members must not have direct conflicts of interest with the nominated authors and must be able to maintain objectivity and independence.
Diversity: Committee composition should reflect diversity in institutional affiliation, country/region, and research discipline. Participation from researchers of different career stages (early-, mid-, and senior-level) is encouraged.
Term and Structure: Members will be reviewed annually and may be rotated if necessary. The committee shall be composed of one chairperson and approximately 5 to 7 members.
